A few days ago, my friend asked about the effectiveness of penlac nail lacquer in the treatment of toenail fungus. Since a month ago, she felt her toes being infected by fungus. Shee even went to the nearest clinic. The doctor suggested that she apply Penlac Nail lacquer for treating fungal infections on her nails. Is nail lacquer nail can penetrate thick layers of the nails? Does topical medication effective in treating nail fungus?

Until recently, treatment of nail fungus continuously researched and developed. Fungal infections of the nail is still difficult to cure. In fact, nail fungus infections often relapse despite treatment for several years. Some experts recommend combination treatment to treat and prevent recurrence of fungal infections of the nails. The effectiveness of combination therapy has been proven through several studies. One of the drugs used in combination therapy is penlac (ciclopirox).

Penlac is one of the recommended drugs for treating mild to moderate nail fungus. Because it does not work systemically, nail lacquer is relatively safe. However, topical treatment is less effective when used as single treatment. Penlac is very helpful when combined with other treatment techniques. Ciclopirox proven to increase the effectiveness of surgical debridement in treating nail fungus. Penlac combined with oral medication can also effective in preventing relapse of nail fungus.
